At the beginning of the story, the son of the Persian Queen Tomyris is kidnapped. To make matters worse and more confusing, Prince Ghassan's kidnapper is none other than Sargon's own mentor, General Anahita.
In fact, the queen herself orchestrated this kidnapping, though the exact reason remains a mystery even after the film's conclusion. One possible motive is her desire for Prince Ghassan to receive the blessing of the oracle at the gate of the Simurgh, thus cementing her son's divine right to rule as was the custom in ancient times.
However, since Tomyris herself was the one who interrupted the final ritual of the Simurgh and killed King Darius (and attempted to kill his son), it is likely that she planned this secret operation to complete the ritual without the rest of Persia revealing her betrayal.
It is also possible that she did not intend for Anahita to successfully deliver Prince Ghassan to the gate of the Simurgh, but rather used the immortals—particularly Sargon—to obtain the Simurgh's blessing. This is perhaps evident from her reaction when her alleged son, Ghassan, threw away his crown in disgust, refusing to be a puppet controlled by her desire for power. In fact, the queen seemed more interested in installing Sargon as king of Persia, and his refusal seemed to shock her even more—more details to come.
